A rich source of information for family historians, and people researching their family trees, is newspaper obituaries. It’s quite common to find that a death notice in the local paper is the only source of information about a person’s life.

There’s a comprehensive list of local newspapers in the UK on: http://www.britishpapers.co.uk which you can use to help you in your search.

There are also online directories where you can search for newspaper obituaries but most of the best ones aren’t free. Worse still, some of them simply redirect you to shopping sites. There IS free information out there but you need to keep your wits about you to find it.
