Genealogy and the LDS

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, often abbreviated to LDS and also known as Mormons, have done extensive research into their ancestors as a part of their religious beliefs.

In the course of this research they have gathered and documented a vast amount of historical data which they will willingly share.

The LDS has the largest genealogy library in the world which is situated in Salt Lake City in Utah – where the headquarters of the LDS church are also based.

The library holds genealogical records for more than 110 countries. It has a vast amount of records on microfilm, microfiche, and in books.

Anyone can visit this library free of charge and use the resources there. The library also has many branches. These are known as Family History Centers (FHCs) and these too can be used free of charge by the general public.
