What is genealogy?
Genealogy is the study of family histories.
Traditionally this was done by the nobility to prove their entitlement to wealth and power but in modern times it has become a popular pastime of ordinary folk.
People like to trace their family trees for a number of reasons. It’s an interesting hobby which can almost become addictive.
Many people also like to go beyond the simple facts of tracing the family tree and enjoy researching family histories. Rather than just gathering names and dates they like to flesh out the facts with information about how those people lived.
If you want to study your family history there are a number of sources of information. This website can help you find them.
